What if public space was re-imagined?
A zine publication challenging how corporations have taken up our public space with advertisements, and tips on how to make a change.
As a group we questioned how our public space is used and if it is really public. We noticed that a lot of space was taken up by corporations in private advertisements to make the most of the open areas.
But what if we don’t want to be bombarded by mindless images created for us to purchase products, and instead were shown more valuable information?
This is not the ideal world one wants to live in since the public has limited say in how the shared space within a community or city is used. Therefore, the articles and images within the zine are meant to shine alight on our use of public space, and the society of the spectacle in general to provide context. We included advertisements that were distorted and expressed a different message to get the reader’s attention to these images and make them think about the actual messages we are confronted with in ads every day.
In the end, there is a removeable guide which explains to the reader how to use the attached keys to adbust their local JCDecaux ads (since these are the most common).
